Absence
Attendance
If your child is going to be absent from school you must call school on 0208 648 9660 before 9.00 am on the first day of absence and then on a daily basis with your child’s name, class and reason for absence. Authorisation will only be given for absence, other than illness and medical appointments in exceptional circumstances, for example compassionate reasons. A letter requesting absence from school should be addressed to the Head of School. Holidays should never be taken in term time and will not be authorised for any year group. Attendance and academic success are closely linked and it is very important that your child attends every day.
Beginning of the Day
The Foxton Grove gate open for our Nursery pupils at 8:30am each day. Foxton Grove and Brooklands Court main gates open for pupils in Reception to Year 6 at 8:40am until 8:50am. Pupils will walk themeselves to their classrooms, where they will be met by their class teacher.
We suggest children who walk themselves to/from school are reminded dailyto cross roads carefully and to stay on the pavements at all times.
Please leave the area as soon as your child has entered school, as this will help the flow of children and parents. The gates are closed at 8:50am. After this time, the children who arrive late will go to the school offcie and sign in giving a reason for lateness. Regualr lateness will be investigated as it effects curriculum time and learning.
End of the Day
The majority of children in Year 5 and 6 walk to/from school alone. (they must have written permission to do so, or their teacher will stay with them in the classroom) All other classes, parents must collect their children from the classroom door. This is a busy time for teachers and support staff, ensuring children go with the correct adults etc...so please do not spend time talking to the staff at the classroom doors. Please walk with your child to the gates, ensuring young children are with you at all times, as the gates are open and cars are around. Again please leave promptly and safely from outside school.
The gates close at 3:25pm. Any children not collected will be taken to the school office and a phone call made to their parents/carers.
Driving and Parking
Please drive slowly in surrounding roads as some children are not road aware.
There are spaces available to park in surrounding roads and the short walk to / from the gates ensures everyone's safety.
- Please do not drive past the barriers in Foxton Grove, these are put out for safety reasons.
- Do not park in front of residents drives.
- Do not park in front of the school gates in Brooklands Court.
Clubs, School Events and Meetings
Children in clubs must get collected from the Foxton Grove gate at the designated club finish time.
Most events and meetings in school, we request that parents enter by the Foxton Grove entrance unless we state differently at the time. This is to ensure we have staff available to let you in and out.
Scooters
We are happy for children to ride their scoooters to school as we have various scooter racks around the school grounds. All scooters should be labelled with their child's name. We do not take responsibility for any loss or damage to scooters if left in school. Scooters are left in school at your own risk.
We do not have space for bicycles so parents will be politely asked to take these back home again at the gate.
Dogs
Some children are frightened of dogs and they are not allowed on school premises. Therefore, please make sure you have someone to hold your dog away from the school gates when you are collecting your child/ren.
Early closure at the end of term
We break up at the end of the Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms earlier than usual at 1pm.
Medical Appointments
Please make these out of school time if at all possible. If your child does need to be absent for a hospital or denatl appointment then please inform the school office in advance.
Penalty Notices

Haslemere Parents
Ensuring your child's regular attendance at school is crucial for their academic success and overall development. Here's why maintaining attendance above 95% is absolutely vital:
• Consistency in Learning: Regular attendance provides your child with consistent teaching, allowing them to stay up to date with the curriculum and build upon their knowledge and skills.
• Active Participation: Being present in the classroom enables your child to actively engage in activities, discussions, and group work, contributing to a richer learning experience and fostering critical thinking skills.
• Social and Emotional Development: School plays a significant role in your child's social and emotional growth. Regular attendance allows them to form meaningful relationships with peers, develop empathy, and practice essential social skills.
• Building Responsibility: Attending school regularly instils values of responsibility and commitment in your child. It teaches them to prioritise their education, show up on time, and take ownership of their learning journey.
• Academic Achievement: Studies consistently show a very strong correlation between attendance rates and academic achievement. Students with high attendance are more likely to achieve higher grades, perform well on standardised tests, and succeed academically.
Your support in ensuring your child's regular attendance is essential. Encourage them to prioritise school attendance, establish a consistent routine, and communicate any challenges they may face. Together, we can create an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
