Design and Technology

Design and Technology Intent:

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. D&T includes sewing and cooking.

Implementation: Pupils undertake a Design and Technology project at least three times a year; this corresponds with Autumn, Spring and Summer. The project will link into some aspect that they are learning that term. It will build up skills and knowledge. For example, within the Science ‘Space’ topic, the children use their learning of pneumatics to make moon buggy.

Impact: Our teachers rely on a range of assessment tools to provide data on the knowledge and skills pupils have, their progress and their development points.  This includes: assessment for learning, application tasks, enquiry tasks, end of unit projects and contributions in lessons. Throughout the course of the lesson the class teacher (and support staff where present) will move around the class, offering support/challenge where needed so that each child is receiving direct feedback during the lesson.
